I hadn't seen this on here yet -

Summer 06 - Saturnine

It's been nine years since their last studio album. I can't wait to hear what they sound like with such a huge lapse between albums.
Bhickman
Is this the same title that they were floating five years ago, too? I doubt it'll ever happen.
JTM
They have a myspace site up and running and have been updating it with YouTube performances and such. Says that they are working on a new album. There is also a promo piece for the new album on YouTube.

Fingers crossed

That makes me feel so old. unsure.gif

Having a web presence and a working title is encouraging, especially after all the rumors I've seen over the past few years that have given me false hopes.

Saturnine? That sounds like some trip-hop/drum 'n bass album from the mid-90s. So retro.

This is what I've found so far...talk about a teaser.

Portishead - Saturnine

(edit) OK - maybe not...people claiming it's a fake. Should have known by the production value. Still sounds good though.
Jordan
yeah how can we be so sure that the myspace is actually made by the band and not just some hopeful fans?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a new album/tour but I dunno..
BennyHillsBalls
that beth gibbons album from a couple years back is great...this thread makes me want to go home and dust that fucker off.

if we can get "chinese democracy" AND "saturnine" both in one year, that would be superb.

Did the same thing last night after I started the post. Got me off of my Misfits kick (oh, and what a change!)

So I'm annoyed. I went to get tickets for their first headline show in ten years for next year and they didn't have the methods to except any of the cards I had on me. By the time I got one they'd gone. Off to Gumtree I guess then.
brainstorm
I even liked the live album. Will anticipate this, though not expect.
Very Metal
I just noticed those two instrumental clips on their myspace have over 1 million listens. People really want this album. Slate them for the cover of Mojo in April.

Hell, that's the best thing they've ever done. It's fantastic.

Don't remind me I couldn't get a ticket to the show in Bristol last weekend. Will be at the first London show when it's announced for '08
Hans Christian Anderson
that youtube video that started circulating a few weeks back from their show a few weeks back was really cool, shitty recording and all aside.

i love this band.

New album is called Third I have tickets to the Apollo gig and they've also got a gig on at Brixton the week after.

I'm missing them in Paris by two weeks...

Bristolian miserablists Portishead’s new album, their first for a decade, will be called Third - that much is known, but now we have the added comfort of tracklisting and a revised release date.

The record will arrive through Mercury/Island on the 28th of April and will feature the following tracks:

‘Silence’
‘Hunter’
‘Nylon Smile’
‘The Rip’
‘Plastic’
‘We Carry On’
‘Deep Water’
‘Machine Gun’
‘Small’
‘Magic Doors’
‘Threads’

The band have also announced A Hawk and a Hacksaw and Kling Klang as alternating support acts on their forthcoming European tour

Really looking forward to this thing actually. Dummy remains one of my top 20-30 favourite albums I reckon so with any hope will will contain some good shit in it.

fabulous muscles

i wish some of those youtubes from late november were still up, some of those songs were fantastic.

I HAVE NO IDEAS OR EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS, I'M JUST GOING TO BUY IT THE DAY IT COMES OUT AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.

downloading now, excited.

This is the album I've been wanting to hear for like EVER. If Radiohead were good, they'd sound like this.

so if radiohead were good they would have a woman singer?

Doesn't Thom sound like a woman sometimes anyway?

lols to you. Like something as insignificant as a male vs female singer would cause me not to compare two bands.

SO THIS IS PRETTY GOOD GUYS.
BobtheSquid
I'm finding it rather dull, but so far only through a couple tracks.
Very Metal
Fucking amazing. Unique and beautiful.
vurt
Yeah, I like this. They have two pretty fucking amazing albums in Dummy and Roseland NYC, and I doubt this is going to eclipse those in my personal pantheon, but it's nice to see them take things in a different direction. Seems a whole lot more electronic influenced and there are some pretty weird/cool things going on in the production. Don't know if you can say something like this is "worth the wait", but it's nice to see them return with something this good.

Whoa...this is going to be a fun night.

Thrilled I hopped on the board tonight. "Plastic" is fucked up in the best of ways.

This leaked album is transcode. Judging by the sound, converted from 64 kbps. Really shitty quality. Either it meant to be lo-fi - go figure.
The Good Dr Bill
THIS IS ONE NUTTY ALBUM HUH
Mitchell
This album is a little all over the place, in a good way like The White Album.
Seamus
"We Carry On" gives off a total Silver Apples vibe (I keep wanting to sing "Oscilations..." over and over). I like "The Rip", though there's not a whole lot to it.

Diggin' this record so far...

biggie mcsmalls
Where can I find this?
Seamus
'08 Trout?

Like I even needed to slook down and check what song I was on when "Machine Gun" came on. Aptly titled, to say the least.

Is there any definitive word about whether the lo-fi-ness is intentional or is it the quality of the rip?

Still one of the great internet mysteries to my ears. This is lo-fi? I guess I'll have to put my CDR up against the official product when I acquire it--do a little head to head. Then, perhaps, I can hear the difference.
