Olivia Tremor Control - Dusk at Cubist Castle (1996)"Who needs psychotropic medicines when Olivia Tremor Control can thoroughly, positively alter one's mindset? OTC's crammed, lysergic debut full-length from 1996 is an undeniable masterpiece, but of what sort? Of the Elephant Six kind. Naturally, then, the vocals are smothered in Big Star/Beatles-like harmonies and the songs segue from musique concrète to delicate drone to Piper at the Gates of Dawn-style jams and even flat-out, poppy rock. The lyrics are a delirious update of psychedelia's most positive moments ("We feel OK, which is how we feel most of the time now / Nothing can be done without the willingness to succeed"). And oh yeah, it's a concept record (the full title is Music from the Unrealized Film Script 'Dusk at Cubist Castle') that has something to do with green typewriters and California sinking into the Pacific Ocean. This record is a life-affirming, druggy, beautiful mess." -- description stolen from another site

I haven't smoked in months actually but my go to records were always these three

The microphones - Glow pt. II: hazy, low-fi pan fuckery. get high, grab headphones and take a seat. the cd sounds as though you are inside the cavernous head of Phil Elvrum. art folk might be one way to describe it

Animal Collective - campfire songs: picture your three best friends getting high and then going outside to your rural back porch and playing the wierdest version of folk-pop you can think of. that is this cd

The books - Thought for Food: more like sound collages with beautiful music behind them. so many noises and ideas swirling around, it's almost impossible to be bored with this disc.

I tend to get really paranoid and anti-social if I touch the stuff these days so playing me this....

Would probably be mucho amusement for someone else.

If I ever got high, I would totally contribute to this thread in a worthwhile manner. Sometimes I'm really intrigued by what it must be like to listen to music stoned. I suppose I can't possibly comprehend it, since I've not been there. I'll keep reading the thread though, to at least get an idea.

So many incredible albums in this thread. Goddamn.
Last night, one of my dreams involved some new person posting albums in this thread, but he/she didn't notice the "stoned edition" part of the title. I might feel more embarrassed for them had it actually happened.

I haven't gotten high in a couple months...though I plan on getting a bag in the near future and have a whole mess of albums I'd like to hear while under.

Gregory Taylor: Amalgam
New ambient stuff, made with Gamelan. Sample it
here! Just got it off a blog and have been blown away. Can't find any info yet on the guy but I think this is incredible.

Of course I'd love to hear this in a different light.
+ that Black Moth Super Rainbow album, Burial, and stuff. Pretty much anything in my top ten of 07 is fair game

Olivia Tremor Control - Dusk at Cubist Castle (1996)Excellent. Thank YOU
I wish you guys would put what genre an album is when you post something - or at least a short description of what it sounds like or what bands it is similar to. A lot the albums mentioned I have heard or but a lot I haven't.
This would help me and probably a lot of other people A LOT. It would help us all figure out if we might be interested in an album or not a lot faster.
Just a suggestion. This is the best music board I've been on.

I always hit the albums Wikipedia when I don't know what it is. It's true, a lot of people on here will just mention shit in passing as if you're supposed to know what the hell that is because a ton of people here are such big music fans they actually DO know what you're talking about. Me on the other hand, I have no idea what anyone is talking about most of the time.

dude,
in a silent way is just as mannered and elegant as
get up with it. I just happen to own a copy of In A Silent Way, so I pulled it out instead. I think its hypnotic grooves, minimal instrumentation, and faded hues lead to a great nod out session.
and paves, not everything sounds good stoned, that is a big myth created by non-stoners so they could feel superior in not liking
every little piece of music. maybe everything sounds good when your stoned if youve only been smoking for a few months or dont get down with it everyday, but not if your a vet.

I know, In A Silent Way is awesome. I mean, it's totally smooth and chilled out. You got that shit goin' on, mang!
And yeah, I doubt that the Gin Blossoms sound good when you're stoned.
EDIT: I retract that last statement.

MISS BLISS - Warm Sounds From A Cold Town (CD, Meltdown, Rock)
Breezy, cool pop with psychedelic edges. This is the second full length disc from Miss Bliss, and it's a keeper. There's an odd familiarity about Miss Bliss, yet I can't quite come up with who they sound like. Perhaps this is because I am an idiot...or perhaps it is because of the medication. The band states that their influences are The Beatles, The Cure, and The Smiths...but I don't think they really sound too much like any of those bands. These basic pop tunes are driven to a different level by spacey guitars and introspective lyrics. Wait...I think I've got it. This is what The Shoes might sound like if they overdosed on LSD. Nicely trippy poppy.

Over Christmas, was staying at the house of my wife's sister, whose husband is a cop (a cool cop, but a cop), in the snowy mountains of upstate NY. After a couple days of over-family exposure, I needed a break. Slipped out of the house, got uberbaked, put this album on the headphones, and ran for 4-5 miles through these mountain roads while it snowed fiercely, fog rolled around, and the wind howled. It was perfect.
