May 20th, 2008 is the day, the leak is sooner

The Arm is the track. It is on their MySpace - http://www.myspace.com/islandsareforever

Pitchfork talked to them here - http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news...i-side-projects

Return to the Sea was one of my favorite '06 albums, and has held up much better over time than most things. Still front to back pop greatness. The Arm is a great sounding track, and has me amped for this release.

WHO'S WITH ME?
Madrox
yesssss i can't wait for this
nick diamonds is my hero

though he was kind of a bitch when i saw islands play in atlanta
didn't take people heckling him very well at all
they made up for it with a 'swans' encore, thoguh

Listening to Return to the Sea tonight gave me multiple errections.

Not to get off track, but former Unicorns dude Alden Penner also has a new band with traxxx here: http://secretunicornsforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21656

Islands are the new Stone Temple Pilots, sucking Arcade Fire's balls like STB cleaned off Pearl Jam.

I don't know what that means.

this CD will be good for a month maybe and die off just like return to the sea. not to be a buzz kill but these guys were cooler as the unicorns. I like some RttS songs but overall, not the best thing ever.
cerebralcaustic
For whatever reason, I associate these guys with Of Montreal, and I've come to really dislike Of Montreal over the past few months.

Me too, but I've never liked Of Montreal so it sucks for these guys. I wont even give them a chance.
championkid
these guys kick so much more ass than of montreal could even hope to kick and they're not as gay.
Eskimo kisses
That one song about swans off their last record was awesome, the rest was abysmal.

this goes without saying, but i still love the slight variation nick took with islands' sound. what is the other ex-unicorns band? they are good too.
i mean besides the corn gangg or whatever the fuck that was.

Pitchfork: You've always got lots of other projects in various stages of readiness. Can you give us an update on, say, the hip-hop project Th' Corn Gangg?

NT: Yeah. We were working on [the album] when I was in New York. Well, J'Amie was, too. We have more than a dozen beats made. We've got a lot of rappers we've been in touch with about working with. We're working on a Del the Funky Homosapien remix. We're trying to get that finished up by the end of the year, at least. That is the least developed of the projects, the least finished.

this is about right.

There were a couple other good ones, but there was a lot of crap on that album, let's be honest now.
Dark Flame
Saw them give an in store performance last night. Really great. Played a couple new songs, which sounded wonderful, a couple old ones, and then a bunch of covers (Jim Guthrie, The Temptations, Spiritualized, Sinead O'Connor). Got me really excited for the new record. The old one was really fun, near perfect pop music.

Seeing them again Saturday, regular type show this time around. I'll let folks know how it goes.

Pinkerton, do you mean Clues? I'm looking forward to hearing a full song from them. They played Montreal in October and it was easily the strangest show I have ever seen.

Lets use this thread for unicorns appreciation, seeing that Islands was boring and useless for the most part. who will cut our hair is a classic of the 00s
brobee
the new song on pitchfork, um, creeper, is totally sweet. has a kind of discoey, string-stabby kinda feel to it. almost like a blondie meets boney m. but by dudes with french names. this is one of my most anticipated albums. goddamnit, leak already!!!
Blue Straggler
There seems to be quite a few harsh replies about Islands. I quite like em' even if it doesn't match who will cut our hair. Its still basically the same joyous sound. Really looking forward to the new album and hopefully to catching them live too.

I've been playing the track they did for Dave Shrigley's Worried Noodles, 'Joy' quite a bit lately.
nagode
ive always been torn as to who i like more unicorns or islands...love em both though

"Creeper" might as well be the disco companion to Radiohead's "Creep"

cover art and tracklist is out.

i couldn't be more excited. that i'm getting a black hole/charles burns vibe off the cover is besides the point. akron/family is creaming their collective jeans right about now.

I love the cover, I like the two songs out there, I would LOVE for the rest of the album to be hitting my ears.
Chronodiggity
Fucking weird album cover. Return to the Sea was really great, cover wise. Totally different mood here. Totally different band, too.
GoOnGoOn
I wasn't too hot on Return— a decent record, a few really good songs, but not one I've pulled out in a long time.

The previewed tracks for this record, though, have me chomping at the bit. Can't wait...
yeknom
I'm too excited for this.

if this isn't better than the last album then that's it. No more Islands for me.

are you listening to this thing now? i want reactions already.
Chronodiggity
The Arm is a monster in this higher quality mp3. Just a killer riff and this orchestral grandiose.

J'aime vous voire quitter has this power-punk vibe going with Nick actually getting close to yelling before it breaks down into some islander-ska-awesome-bullshit at the end.

Nothing but excitement so far.
Chronodiggity
There's more guitars in the first 4 tracks of this album than all of Return to the Sea

Abominable Snow is post-punk glory.

Nick Diamond for PREZ
brobee
good. i'm gonna put it on while i make dinner, then i'm gonna put it on again later, when i'm baked out of my mind. i'm engaging in some sort of weird musical foreplay with myself right now.
Chronodiggity
"Creeper" is really great. Maybe the best song so far. I like that this is a clear pop album, but it isn't "easy". Diamond takes these riffs, and twists them into something more elongated and embellished. Lyrics are actually surprisingly catching my ear.
Chronodiggity
This album is incredibly long. The bombast is really reaching titanic levels towards the middle section here. "In the Rushes" is really going nuts, here.
vamos
This is already way better than return to the sea
vamos
I wouldn't be surprised to hear "Pieces of You" playing on FM radio within a month or so
Chronodiggity
It's really strange to hear an artist in the run up to their album talk about how "epic" it is and then actually deliver.
Chronodiggity
I really really really like "Creeper"
Nixon
respectfully, does no one else think this thing totally blows?
Blue Straggler
Does anybody know the release date before I click on the link?
farawaysoclose
may 20 = release date. just listened to the album and I think i feel evil creeping in was my favorite. that'll probably change a few times though. really great stuff.

No one will agree with you until page 5. Just give it time.
yeknom
thanks for the link, I'll listen later when I'm loaded, and again tomorrow.
Heretix
What's with all the hate?

I mean, it doesn't sound as unique or immediately great as Return to the Sea, but it just sounds like Nick maturing as a songwriter and musician..some great melodies here.
DemonAndrew
much, much stronger than the debut.

the songs are top-notch.
