Aaaaaaanyway...
Legit thread. I've liked 2008 so far. Genghis Tron, Boris, Black Mountain, Foals, Sunset, Barry Lynn, Constantines, Fuck Buttons, Portishead (although I crave a better version of it) all being very good indeed. Black Mountain and Foals are the standout SOMB type albums, although I think that Sunset has huge appeal for this forum (see NewGrass's thread for link). It reminds me a bit of last years Menomena which is a good thing.

I'd really like to hear a proper rip of that Portishead. As of now I don't want to listen to it again at that sound quality. When's that scheduled to officially drop?
The Sunset didn't do it for me, but I'm going to give it another shot.

Have only listened to three albums this year, but I dig all three
Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree: Confession: I wasn't that crazy about Goldfrapp until this album. So basically, take the average SOMB sentiment and flip it over. Many will hate this, but I dug the lushness of it.
The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride: I've listened to this more than any other 2K8 release, which is as much a product of it being the only album on my hard drive currently, as much as anything else. Which isn't to say it's not good, I really like "Autoclave".
Lykke Li - Youth Novels: Awesome pop album. Really catchy and sublimely sexy. I need a physical copy of this.

As Tomato Face says, The Mae Shi - Hlllhy. They're one of these new wave electro-indie type bands but except that they're actually quite good. If I was to place a bet, I would guess that you wouldn't like them. But still, maybe worth a try.

You would be correct. I listen to alot of genres, styles, etc, but I absolutely *loathe* nu wave, nu metal and nu kountry. There's a certain vocal characteristic to nu wave that just makes me instantly think "melodramatic try hard" every time.
edit: These guys are from L.A. and they are trying to sing like a British nu wave band. Not sure why.

I totally agree on the Black Mountain and Gary Louris. They are both very good. Have to listen to the others more to be able to comment on them.
Black Mountain is recommended if you like Wolfmother, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and just good rock in general. They have both fast, loud songs and slow, mellow, beautiful ones.
Gary Louris is a little more mellow but sounds great in places. I am not that familiar with the Jayhawks which Gary is a member of, but like this album. My favorite is the title track, Vagabonds.
